"All I see are dark grey clouds
In the distance moving closer with every hour
So when you ask "Is something wrong?"
I think "You're damn right there is but we can't talk about it now.
No, we can't talk about it now."
So one last touch and then you'll go
And we'll pretend that it meant something so much more
But it was vile, and it was cheap
and you are beautiful but you don't mean a thing to me
yeah you are beautiful but you don't mean a thing to me"

Gandalf
For some odd reason whenever I smoke pipe tobacco from one of my Turkish pipes I feel wise. If you have seen The Lord of the Rings, Fellowship of the Ring...I always feel like Gandalf when he is smoking his pipe in Bilbo's home wondering what he is going to do now that the ring is found. Every single time I light my pipe my mind goes to that video clip haha.
I was smoking my pipe a few moments ago on my porch here in Navarre Beach and listening to one of the greatest sounds God has blessed us with, the ocean waves. I couldn't help, but think about short this life is and how far I have come in this period of time. I remember the first time when I was at the beach with all my cousins. I was 6 or 7 probably and my Uncle was there in his younger 30s...here I am now 22 and I will be in my 30s before I know it. Just goes to show you that this life is short and we aren't meant to live on this earth for long. I just want to make the most of what I have left in this life, I feel young and I want to leave a legacy in this world. I want to be known.
Live life to the fullest,be thankful for everything, anxious for nothing, make a stranger smile, live in the moment, but at the same time live for the future, make a difference, set an example, follow the footsteps, but also leave footsteps for others to follow, contra mundum, change the world before tomorrow comes because tomorrow isn't promised. I have almost died 2 times in the past 4 years and both those times have been enough to wake me up and remind me that tomorrow isn't promised and I shouldn't be here.
So, how am I going to help frodo destroy the ring? What mark am I going to leave in this life? Sometimes I hate the way that I am and do the things that I do, but it was who I was made to be.

This is from JRR Tolkien and it pretty much sums up how I feel..
Frodo: I wish the ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

From Dixie With Love
From Dixie With Love will no longer be played at Ole Miss football games. What is next? Soon we won't be allowed to call ourselves Ole Miss? Stupid students (I am one of them but I don't chant TSWRA) and believe me plenty of Ole Miss Alum brought this among themselves. Majority of students and alot of alum yell TSWRA instead of the real words "His truth is marching on. . ."
They stopped playing the American Trilogy by Elvis at football games for who knows what reason..but actually the Elvis video after the game enlightened dumb students of the real words to the song. I've heard alot of friends tell me that they actually thought the real words to the song were TSWRA.
Now on the other hand...TSWRA is not such a bad idea anymore in my opinion the way Obama is destroying the country. He really is trying to ruin America and ruin how we have grown up living our lives. I wouldn't mind seeing the South rising again along with Texas and forming its own country just for different reasons this time. So in a sense...TSWRA is not so bad when you think of it in that sense. It is not my desire to have a split country but the liberal northeast and coast is going to force the conservatives in the south and midwest to rebell if it keeps going this way. We could see a civil war not on racial grounds but for freedom grounds. Thats a long way away...but I woudn't rule it out in the future.
The best way for students to be informed of what they are doing is to take away the song for a little while...maybe a couple years...get the word out of why it was taken away...and replace it with the Elvis video again. I was in disbelief of hearing some of my friends say they had no idea..TSWRA was not the real words to the song.
Yes it is most of the students fault for this being taken away. Its been going on for a long time..I am 22 years old and I remember hearing the students yellling it when I was a little boy and most likely those that graduated 10+ years ago still say it. I've heard old people say it too. I went to the Florida game this year and didn't sit with any students and heard it!! I have yet to hear "His truth is marching on" over power the TSWRA anywhere I sit in an Ole Miss crowd. Youtube Ole Miss postgame celebrations and you will hear it from ages all over the place. I will say its mainly the students fault though because they are the drunks at the game and clustered together screaming it at the top of their lungs.

Music
Check out http://www.last.fm/user/JohnGreer I have listened to 55k songs since June of 2007...safe to say I love music? My taste in music has changed over the years..I find burned cds from middle school and high school and can't imagine what I was thinking with some of these artists I listened to. I find it amazing that I have listened to more than 700 bands since 2007...I didn't even know I knew that many. I have also almost listened to Sigur Ros 10000 times on Itunes..Everytime I go to a wedding I think of a new different first song I am going to play and dance to with my wife and it changes all the times. If I had a theme song and I could turn it on wherever I went where everyone heard me what would it be? I am still trying to decide on that one. Everytime I went to an Ole Miss baseball game I always thought of what song would I walk to if I was on the baseball team? Sadly I have my songs picked out for my funeral...Blessed Assurance,Amazing Grace, and either Dixie or the Ole Miss fight song.Any way check my music blog out...I have converted people to alot of great music...Sigur Ros,Josh Rouse, Fleet Foxes, etc.
I recommend you get a last.fm account...you will discover alot of great music doing so.

My Preseason Top 25
Look for the SEC to have "another down year" and win the national championship...I guess an SEC 6-2 bowl record was a downer last year...Problem with the SEC is they are in the best conference in the country and beat up on each other week end and week out
1.Florida
2. Texas
3.Oklahoma
4. USC..they usually find a way to lose a game somewhere
5. Penn State
6.Ole Miss
7.Alabama
8.LSU
9.Oregon
10.Ohio State
11.Virginia Tech (look for them to be bumped up after they lose to Bama)
12.Cal
13. Oklahoma State
14.North Carolina
15.Georgia Tech
16. Boise State...lucky they aren't higher...they don't play anyone
17.Iowa
18.Nebraska
19.Utah
20. Florida State
21.Kansas
22.Oregon State
23.TCU
24.BYU
25.Clemson
Other teams right behind...Pitt,Miami,ECU,Michigan State,Tennessee,
Can't leave UT,Auburn,Arkansas, out of the top 25 for long either...South Carolina needs to have a top 25 finish too or else Spurrier will be done.

Better Role Model..Tebow or King James
Comparing Tebow and Lebron.
We all make mistakes, Phelps admitted to smoking the gonge and now Lebron has. 1 point goes to Tebow
Both are passionate about the game, but who is the better sport. I think Tebow's press confrence after the Ole Miss loss was over the top, but it shows how much he loves the game. The passed two images we know about Lebron James is that he walked away after losing to the Magic without acknowledging or shaking hands with anyone on the Magics team...and now he is upset and tried to hide a decent college basketball players film of him being dunked on...Point Tebow
Who is more humble? I get the feeling that Lebron James is all about himself. For example, you know those rubber bracelets people wear all the time that Lance Armstrong got started for raising money for cancer research? I got on Sports Illustrated and saw 4 rubber bracelets on Lebrons tatted arms and saw what all four of his bracelets read...King James...on the other hand during every game, its not about Tebow its about his faith...he wears the same verse under his eyes every game and gives credit to God when reporters let him. Look at what he does during the offseason too...goes on mission trips and preforms surgies and shares his testimony wherever he goes. Another point for Tebow
Who cares if James gets dunked on..a great player would focus on shutting that guy down the rest of the game instead of letting a regular dunk ruin your reputation by trying to delete the film. Your not invincable "King" James...your human..realize that. One reason I think I will always like Michael Jordan better than you..he missed shots, but he worked harder in preventing it from happening again and if someone drilled a nasty shot in his face he would shut them down and make the rest of the game miserable for them. MJ was a very likable, humble player...its not too late to learn from him.
Learn to just deal with it....today Tebow was asked a question about his personable life/beliefs and he didn't try to avoid it...he used the question for good...a little different from your dunk situation, but you could use that for your good...its not like you were guarding the Xavier player one on one, you were helping out for crying out loud and got there too late.
Better role model---> Tim Tebow
The past 2 circumstances Lebron James has not carried himself well at all...more reason for me to dislike him. I don't dislike the way he dominates in his game, but he is full of bs and his attitude completely sucks.

SEC East Predictions
1. Florida, no brainer considering the only player they basically only lost was Percy Harvin. Tim Crybaby Tebow won't have to cry after a loss, because its not going to happen this year. "You will never see a player.." I'll just stop there. I will say I loved all the gator chomps on Friday night before the Ole Miss game and "What the hell are you doing in Gainseville...this is going to be a slaughter...you drove 11-12 hours for nothing"
2. Georgia, sure Georgia lost their Qb and Rb, but they had a great recruiting class. Look for Marlon Brown at WR to be one of the best freshmen in the country this year. 9/19 is when we know if Georgia is good or not, when they travel to Arkansas. I acutally think Arkansas is going to pull the upset.
3. Tennesssee- The Vols will be much improved despite their losses at WR this offseason. Unfamiliar players will have to step up and we will see if Kiffin is just an idiot or an idiot and a good coach. I see an 8-4 or 7-5 season. Vols might want to keep the TV off on 9/19 though.
4. Vanderbilt, they are getting better every year under Johnson. Alot of people would put South Carolina in this position or where I put UT, but South Carolina is going to flop again this year like they did last year. The only thing they have riding for them this year is their defense. Truth is Vandy has more returning starters than South Carolina does and their players will just be better having the confidence after winning a bowl game.
5. South Carolina- see above, but this is when Spurrier hangs up the visor and calls it a day. The ole ball coach has enough after this year and retires. If I am wrong here..South Carolina could surprise me and place 3rd in the East.
6. Kentucky- I see Kentucky losing their first 4 SEC games...just look at who they play...home against Florida,Alabama and away at South Carolina and Auburn...10/31 look for their first SEC victory when they beat the Spreadnecks of Moo University

SEC West Predictions
SEC predictions for 2009
West (in order)
1. Ole Miss Rebels...I think the Rebels will start off where they left off last year. It took them half a season to get the new offense down, but once they did it was hard to stop them. Ole Miss has one of the best DL in the country even though they lost Peria Jerry. Ole Miss has the second most returning starters in the SEC behind Florida. Whats not to like about this pick...I guess you can always look at the Rebels past..only team in the West who hasn't been to Atlanta, but if they can't get it done with this schedule...they might not have another shot until Eli or Peyton have grown kids in college
2. Alabama, I would pick LSU because I think LSU has more talent, but if you look at Alabama's SEC schedule you gotta go with Alabama over LSU. Its all going to come down to who wins in Oxford in October Ole Miss or Bama?
3. LSU, will be much improved if their qb can play like he did in the Peach Bowl. They have loads of talent. This top 3 order could go anyway. If LSU's qb stays consistant they could be very well going to ATL to face the mighty (you guessed it) volunteers of Tennessee...only kidding
4. Auburn, most people would pick Arkansas as having more talent next year, but again...schedule. There is no way Arkansas finishes about Auburn in the SEC this year, not going to happen. Arkansas might be the most improved SEC team in he West, but their schedule is too brutal...@LSU,Ole Miss,Alabama,Florida...and Georgia and South Carolina at home
5. Arkansas...see above
6. Miss. State...I mean come on how can anyone be serious about picking Miss. State anywhere, but last? The day Miss. State gets rid of cowbells is that day they get serious about football...not going to happen. I can easily see a 3-9 record for State...rebuilding year...you have the Spreadneck offense being put into play now..Unproven qb who took a beating in the Egg Bowl...45-0 Ole Miss...total of 37 yards and negative rushing yards in the game.

First post
This is my first post on here, I have wanted to have a blogspot for a while, but haven't gotten around to it. That being said the thing on my mind right now is the Chicago Cubs and why I am still a fan. I started off an Atlanta Braves fan until i was about 11 or 12 and then I went to Wrigley Field when I was 14 and had a change of heart. I'm sick of being a Cubs fan, they never cease to disappoint me.
I am open to become a fan of another team. I don't change teams very often, but I usually only root for teams in the National league. My mom was born a Cards fan and I have tried to get into the Cards for years, but it just hasn't happened. My grandfather got my mom into the Cards when they lived in Cape Gerarduo,Mo...I know I am not spelling that right. Maybe I just need to go to a game. I know it shows that I am not that big of a Cubs fan when I try to be a Cards fan. I also like the Dodgers..I'm a big Joe Torre fan...I always liked him as a coach when he was with the Yankees, but I can't stand the Yankees. My day feels so much better when they lose.
Watching baseball and especially college baseball this year at Ole Miss really made me miss baseball alot. Its hard to watch a full game on t.v. for me but being at the ballpark is a different story. I've been home all summer and set up a mound in my back yard and I throw everyday. It brings back alot of great high school memories. It is the greatest feeling in sports throwing a baseball as hard as you can and striking someone out makes it all the better. All that being said its hard for me to honestly go to a game and not want to be on the field or a part of the game. I found the Ole Miss baseball games better than mlb games. I haven't been to many college baseball stadiums, but I would say it would be hard to top the atmosphere at OU stadium on a friday or saturday.
I think baseball deserved the first post. I'd say college baseball has jumped to my second favorite sport at Ole Miss. Hard to beat college football. If I was playing on the baseball team it would be a different story. Thats all I have on this matter.
About 2 weeks until I am back in Oxford for my senior year, can't wait.
